Meet the Owner / Operator

Catherine Whittaker, B.Sc., is a certified Reiki Master / Teacher, Registered Reflexology Therapist, and trained in a long list other complimentary holistic work.  She opened Cozy Corner Holistic Services in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 2005.  Catherine is known for applying her energy work in all that she does, such as her signature energy massage, soothing foot reflexology or intuitive Reiki treatments.  She also felt from day one that healing usually doesn’t happen in a hurry.  It takes time to settle down and relax, before the healing truly begins.  She always longed for the right opportunity to encourage that on an everyday basis, and the time has finally come with Summerhurst Healing Retreat!

Summerhurst Mission Statement
What you won’t find at Summerhurst is short, quick appointments. Summerhurst strives to take the “rush” out of appointments and get to the bottom of what you need to release that day. It takes time to settle in a healing mind frame, and our full and half day healing packages are designed to maximize your healing each time you come in. A healing journey is just like peeling an onion. It takes time to peel away emotional baggage, events in your life that have not been healed, fears of moving forward, becoming true to yourself, and finding your own inner strength and power. Very often, these ‘energetic blockages’ or ‘layers’ are also the underlying cause of stubborn aches, pains and health conditions.

Although we all have the ability to heal ourselves, fears and our hectic lifestyles often encourage us to hold on to these ‘blockages’, and put off what is true to our hearts, what REALLY makes us happy and content. Often called a healer, Catherine prefers to think of herself as your healing partner, because her true role is to make you feel safe and comfortable to confront what you need to release with personal strength and power. When you have a true desire to heal, and when the time is right, amazing healing journeys occur!

History of Summerhurst
Summerhurst was built in 1909 on a beautiful, private lot downtown West Gore, Nova Scotia.  From the beginning, Summerhurst was a place of healing, inner growth and spirituality, originally built as Literary College before the war.  Today, you can enjoy the modern version combined with the look and feel of yesterday.

Why the country?
In the last 2 years, Catherine found the energy of the city increasingly heavy and tiring.  Frequent trips to the countryside and ocean kept her energy high and spirits clear.  Since January 2009, however, she knew she had to move her home and business to the country, to a place where the energy was high and pure, for both herself and her clients.  Summerhurst is a place of healing, an escape from the everyday, and her true wish is that the peace and serenity of the countryside will give you the opportunity to truly let go and heal from within.

Meet Lily
Summerhurst has all the comforts of home… including the family dog.  Lily is our 15 month old Golden Retriever, who quickly assumed the role of Director of Guest Relations!  She does take her job very seriously, so you will no doubt get the chance to meet her.  (Not a dog lover?  Just let us know!)

Lily can’t wait to meet you!
